Mineral Production During December 2011
The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector in December 2011 was higher by 6.39% compared to that of the preceding month. The mineral sector has shown a negative growth of 3.77% during December 2011 as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.
The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during December 2011 was Rs.17286 crore. The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs. 5725 crore (33%). Next in the order of importance were: coal Rs 5292 crore, iron ore Rs.3227 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 1430 crore, lignite Rs. 362 crore and limestone Rs. 286 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 94% of the total value of mineral production in December 2011.
Production level of important minerals in December 2011 were: coal 536 lakh tonnes, lignite 37 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 3821 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 32 lakh tonnes, bauxite 1111 thousand tonnes, chromite 343 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 13 thousand tonnes, gold 171 kg., iron ore 136 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 15 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 181 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 136 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 208 thousand tonnes, dolomite 422 thousand tonnes, limestone 203 lakh tonnes, magnesite 15 thousand tonnes and diamond 1499 carat.
In December 2011 the output of gold increased by 47.41%, lignite 24.83%, copper conc. 23.13%, chromite 17.52%, coal 11.45%, bauxite 9.34%, iron ore 8.97%, lead conc. 8.03%, apatite & phosphorite 4.85%, dolomite 3.13%, petroleum (crude) 2.85%, manganese ore 2.50%, natural gas (utilized) 1.51%, zinc conc.0.71%, limestone 0.40 percent. However the production of diamond decreased by 26.77% and magnetite 28.37 percent.
