Quarterly Performance Review meeting of Indian Bureau of Mines held Today 

Task Force of Indian Bureau of Mines, IBM, Inspected 434 Mines During the Quarter April-June 

The IBM also Worked on the Enforcement of Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 1988 

The quarterly performance review meeting of Indian Bureau of Mines was held here today. Indian Bureau of Mines, IBM, had inspected 434 mines under Task Force and mining operations were suspended in respect of 147 mines . The IBM had revoked suspension in 78 cases after rectification. In its earlier meeting Secretary (Mines), Shri S. Vijaykumar, suggested IBM to make aware state governments of the reasons for suspension of mining operations in these cases. The quarterly performance review also stated that details of mines which have been inspected by the Task Force during the last three years and violations of MCDR 1988 observed in these mines have been uploaded on its website.

In its quarterly performance review meeting for the period ending 30th June, 2011, Methodology for calculation of royalties has been incorporated in the publication on “Mineral Royalties”.

The quarterly report stated that assessment of resources as per UNFC in a time-bound manner, the reporting of reserves as per UNFC system in its totality for approval of Mining Plan and Scheme of Mining was initiated by IBM in 2009 as per the Study Group Report on Implementation of UNFC of Reserves/ Resources on the Ground.

The IBM also worked on the Enforcement of Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 1988 in discharging the duties of enforcing conservation of minerals, systematization of mining activities and protection of environment in mining areas. Mines Control and Conservation of Minerals Division of IBM inspected 483 mines and positively brought restoration of scientific mining practices in pointing out 765 cases of violations and achieving compliance in 164 cases thereby ensuring scientific mining practices in the mines.

The IBM also carried out 20 ore dressing investigations, 11840 chemical analysis and 598 mineralogical determinations.
