Mineral Production During February 2011

The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector in February 2011 was lower by 7.11% compared to that of the preceding month. However the mineral sector has shown a positive growth of 0.57% during February 2011 as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.

The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during February 2011 was Rs.15512 crore. The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs. 4992 crore (32%). Next in the order of importance were: coal Rs 4415 crore, iron ore Rs.3406 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 1195 crore, lignite Rs. 426 crore and limestone Rs. 270 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in February 2011.

Production level of important minerals in February 2011 were: coal 474 lakh tonnes, lignite 38 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 3830 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 30 lakh tonnes, bauxite 1010 thousand tonnes, chromite 442 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 12 thousand tonnes, gold 216 kg., iron ore 176 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 13 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 248 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 133 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 197 thousand tonnes, dolomite 348 thousand tonnes, limestone 202 lakh tonnes, magnesite 21 thousand tones and diamond 0 carat.

In February 2011 the output of gold increased by 44.97%, chromite 26.04%, manganese ore 5.87%, lignite 2.45%, dolomite, 1.79%, limestone 0.89 percent However the production of copper conc. decreased by 1.10%, lead conc. 5.46%, magnesite 5.81%, coal 7.51%, petroleum (crude) 7.76%, apatite & phosphorite 8.11%, iron ore 9.08%, natural gas (utilized) 10.53%, bauxite 12.67%, zinc conc.12.85% and diamond 100 percent.
