Follow-up order from Russia: Siemens VAI supplies additional equipment for continuous billet caster in the new compact steelworks of Kaluzhsky Steel

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Kaluzhsky Scientific Industrial Electrometallurgical Plant (Kaluzhsky Steel) to supply equipment for an additional casting format for the continuous billet casting machine in the company's compact steelworks, which is currently being constructed in Vorsino. Late 2008 Siemens was entrusted with erecting the complete steelworks scheduled to start operating in 2011.
Until now, the 8-strand continuous billet caster was designed for the production of billets with cross-sections of 125x125 millimeters. The additional equipment will enable billets with a cross-section of 150x150 millimeters to be cast. The Siemens scope of supply includes Diamold casting mould, spray registers and dummy bar components.
Kaluzhsky Steel belongs to the Maxi Group, a majority shareholding of the Russian company Novolipetsk Steel. In order to cover the growing regional demand for steel in Russia, Siemens VAI Metals Technologies won an order to erect the new compact steelworks in Vorsino, Oblast Kaluga, at the end of 2008. The scope of supply included an Ultimate electric arc furnace, secondary metallurgical equipment, dedusting equipment, the continuous billet casting machine, the media supply equipment plus the electrical equipment and automation system. The new plant will produce 1.5 million metric tons of liquid steel per year. The carbon steel and alloy steel produced there will be cast and rolled as billets.
