BEML to become a billion dollar company
  

BEML LIMITED a defence PSU has set its target to become a billion dollar company (Rs.5000/- Crores) as part of its vision 2013-14 to coincide with golden jubilee of its foundation. This was announced by CMD of BEML Shri VRS Natrajan in a press conference in New Delhi today. He said that BEML has set its sight to improve Business volume of Defence and expected to cross turnover of around Rs. 3500 Crores in 2009-10 with the order book of around 5400 Crores. Last year the company has export order worth Rs.304 crores. The major buyers were from Indonesia and Brazil.



Shri Natrajan informed that BEML is also exploring opportunities for the supplies of 10mts and 5mts short span bridges for which it is working closely with DRDO. He said BEML will also be offering the state of the art 43mts span Dry Support bridges to the Indian Army for load capacity MLC 80 T/MLC 100 T/MLC. This bridge can be launched from one side of the bank without intermediary support. The CMD said that his company being the offset partners for DMD, Slovakia for wheeled guns with 30% of value is in the final stages of offering 155 mm wheeled guns for which trials are scheduled shortly.



Shri Natrajan informed that the newly raised Aerospace Division of BEML has recently bagged orders from HAL for Slat jigs for SU-30, Fuselage rotating jig for IJTs, Tow bars for Aircraft operations, Gear component for Cheetah- Chetak helicopters and ALH. BEML is already in the manufacture of Ground Support Equipment (GSE)/ Ground Handling Equipment (GHE) that includes 18T and 28T Aircraft Towing Tractors (ATT) Automatic Weapon Loaders and Crash Fire Tenders. This division also proposes to manufacture aero-structures and also different types of jigs for manufacture and assembly of aero-structures. BEML got CEMILAC certification for Aero design and is in the process of obtaining manufacturing certification to become eligible for tie-up for Defence Aero offsets.



Shri Natrajan informed that BEML has also developed a snow cutter for use by Indian Army and Director General of Border Road (DGBR) Forces for snow clearing in forward areas. The equipment is undergoing extensive field trials. This equipment can withstand extreme conditions at altitude upto 18,000 feet. The snow clearance rate is 3500 tonnes/hr and the casting distance is 40 mts.



He said different types of Army rail products for the exclusive use of armed forces like the Mil Rail Coaches for movement of personnel and mil wagons for the transportation of combat equipment are also being manufactured.



Shri Natrajan said that development of simulators for the training of our armed forces has been identified as one of the thrust areas by the technology division of the company. The driving simulator for the BEML-Tatra trucks, which BEML manufactures and supplies to the Army in bulk supplies, was developed by this Division and has earned the appreciation of the Training Command.



BEML Ltd. signed a MoU with M/s. OBRUM, a leading research and development, modernization and production enterprise of Poland during DEFEXPO 2010. The MoU envisages joint designing and development of various products such as Armoured Recovery and Repair Vehicle on Arjun, Futuristic Main Battle Tank, Overhaul of T – 72 and BMP-II, APU for T-72 and APU+A/C Unit for T-90, Armoured Personnel Carrier, 155 mm SP tracked gun system, T-72 1000 hp engine and BMP-II upgrade. The Project for development of Armoured Recovery & Repaired Vehicle on ARJUN is promoted and co-ordinated by CVRDE, Chennai and is funded by DRDO. BEML will also invest in the project and it is anticipated that BEML will be the nodal agency for production and supply of the ARRVs.

The MoU will be valid for a period of 3 years which can be further extended. Through this MoU both BEML and OBRUM will target the huge Indian Defence Market and address the opportunities that are going to come up.
