Italian delegation meets Minister of State for Railways
  
A seven member Italian delegation led by the depuity Minister of Economic Development of Italy Mr. Adolfo Urso, called on the Minister of State for Railways Shri K.H.Muniyappa here today to discuss cooperation between the Railways of the two countries. Chairman, Railway Board, Shri S.S.Khurana and other senior Railway Board officials of Indian Railways were also present at the meeting.

Italian side expressed their desire to cooperate in the development of High Speed Rail and Logistics Infrastructure in India which was welcomed by the Indian side. Indian side offered to give a presentation to the Italian delegation on the development of High Speed Rail Corridors in India for a full appreciation of the issues and the procedures. It was agreed that the venue and date of this presentation would be mutually decided by the two railways. Development of World Class Railway stations was another area of interest expressed by the Italian side.

A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in Railway sector exists between Ministry if Railways, Government of India and Ferrovie Dello Stato S.p.A (Italian Railways) and has been recently extended up to July 2010. While welcoming the Italian delegation, Shri Muniyappa expressed Indian Railways’ desire for enhanced cooperation with Italy in Railway sector.
