              GLOBAL STEEL 2010 – A Platform for two innovative contests

 

“National Integrity Theme Presentation Contest on Ethics in Business.”and “Photography Competition”

 

 

Kolkata, 22nd December, 2009:  Goa will host the Global Steel 2010 the fifth international conference on steel and steel making raw materials in February 2010.

 

As the theme suggests “Time to steel ahead – Anatomy of an Economy riding the Growth Trajectory” the main objective of the conference is to discuss the growth opportunities opening up after the recession. The event will act as an international meeting point to facilitate information exchange, strategic discussions, networking, forging alliances and to understanding trends in national and international markets

 

 The conference will have several sessions including the Government’s and International perspective on the future of the Indian steel industry, technical sessions on raw materials, transportation and logistics, mining, panel discussions etc. The conference will be addressed by many distinguished speaker from the steel and allied industry. Shri Virbhadra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Steel, Government of India will be the chief guest and Shri Atul Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Govt of India will be the guest-of-honour.

 

A very high level Mining and Mining Technology delegation from Australia including the Hon. Bob Carr, Former Premier of New South Wales, Australia; Hon Ian Macdonald, Minister for State and Regional Development and Minister for Mineral and Forest Resources and Central Coast, NSW, Australia; HE Mr Peter N Varghese, Australian High Commissioner to India and Mr Peter Linford, Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner, Austrade who would be visiting exclusively for the event is one of the major highlights of this international conference.

The Government of Orissa, Department of Steel & Mines is participating in the Event as the Partner State.

 

Apart from this Global Steel 2010 will also host two contests.

A)    Photography Competition – Steel Life

This competition is open to all accredited press photographers who can send in photographs dwelling on the subject of “how steel touches our daily lives”. Selected entries will be showcased at the conference venue and would be judged by a panel of jury as well as delegates. The best three photographs will be awarded with cash prizes of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively. The main objective of organising this contest is to increase awareness about steel in the media. The last date for submission for entries is 15th January 2010.

 

B)    Gujarat NRE National Integrity Theme Presentation Contest on Ethics in Business:

Ethics in business is a very broad term and includes among other things the social responsibility of business. Any business can achieve sustainable growth and be successful in the long run by taking the stakeholders in confidence and carrying them along the development path. Sensitive approach to the environment and the community in which a business operates speaks volume of the ethical behavior practiced in business, not to mention being fair and transparent to the employee and to the consumer.

And all these need to happen in the set framework of the legal system of the country. So now it becomes very important to find out whether our systems are ready to take up the challenges thrown open by the changing socio-economic scenario? To analyze these vital points Gujarat NRE has planned a contest as the part of Global Steel 2010.

 

The Contest TopicEthics in Business: Ethics or Ethical law, what comes first?

1st Prize – Rs.1 lakh   ,    2nd Prize – Rs. 50 thousand

 

This contest is open to all. Interested people are requested to submit presentation in a ppt or pdf file to the organizers at integritycontest@gmail.com on or before 5th January 2010. The best presentations would be adjudged by delegates and a panel of appointed judges during the conference. A theme paper on National Integrity containing the final presentations would be circulated to the delegates. The finalists would also be requested to participate in a panel discussion with a panel of distinguished judges. The presentation would be judged on the basis of the content published and circulated in the theme paper and from the participants’ response to the questions, during the panel discussion. There would be also special prizes for the audience for the questions they can put to the finalists and on the interactions.
