Top Quality Honours for GAIL Vijaipur plant

 

December 17, 2009, New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited has received the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award as the best performer among the Large Scale Manufacturing IndustryShri B C Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL (India) Limited received the prestigious award here today from Prof. K V Thomas, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The award, instituted by Bureau of Indian Standards was given to GAIL’s Gas Processing Unit, Vijaipur. Shri R D Goyal, Director (Projects), Shri D.K Purwar, Executive Director Gas O&M and Shri Narendra Kumar, General Manager, GAIL Vijaipur were also present on the occasion to receive this award.

 

GAIL Vijaipur manufactures a range of liquid hydrocarbon products like LPG, Propane, Pentane and Naptha and recorded a sales turnover of Rs. 1250 crore in year 2008-09 by achieving a capacity utilization of 113.43%. GAIL Vijaipur is holding a Quality Management System Certification as per ISO 9001 and has implemented an ERP system (SAP) to improve analysis of customer and market information stock management and accounts receivable. This unit also makes all payments within 15 days to average vendors electronically through a system called the Bill Watch System. All files being initiated are routed through a File Management System wherein each file can be tracked through the intranet. The organization has also implemented an online complaint redressal system.

 

This unit has also replaced Halon System completely in all gas turbines and has a policy for phase wise replacement of asbestos. GAIL Vijaipur is also a Zero discharge plant as all ETP water is used for horticulture. The organization has developed a green belt having more than 1.5 lakh plants. Each employee plants a sapling on his birthday in the area earmarked as Birthday garden. At this unit a school named Alaknanda is run under the guidance of the organization’s first lady, providing free education to children of poor sections and domestic servants.
