Weekly Raw Steel Production - August 15, 2009




 
In the week ending August 15, 2009, domestic raw steel production was 1,285,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 53.9 percent. Production was 2,158,000 tons in the week ending August 15, 2008, while the capability utilization then was 90.4 percent. The current week production represents a 40.5 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending August 15, 2009 is up 0.7 percent from the previous week ending August 8, 2009 when production was 1,277,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 53.5 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 15, 2009 was 35,228,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 45.5 percent. That is a 49.6 percent decrease from the 69,863,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 90.3 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending August 15, 2009 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast: 99; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 91; Lake Erie: 11; Detroit: 39; Indiana/Chicago: 402; Midwest: 127; Southern: 444 and Western: 72.
