Inauguration of 0.45 million tonne Alloy & Stainless Steel Division at  the Integrated Steel Plant at Banskopa, Durgapur 

Durgapur, February 21, 2009: Jai Balaji Industries Ltd (JBIL) announces the inauguration of its 0.45 million tonne Alloy & Stainless Steel division at its Integrated Steel Plant at Banskopa, Durgapur, West Bengal, by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the presence of other dignitaries. The inauguration of the project by the Chief Minister is a significant recognition of the facility and the support by the state government in the process of industrialization in the state. This new facility entails an investment of Rs 225 crore out of the total investment of nearly Rs. 2,000 crore made by the Jai Balaji Group. 

The 0.45 million tonne Alloy & Stainless Steel division of JBIL is the most modern and one of the largest of its type in the country with the latest state-of-the-art technology. The division which comprises of Oxygen & Argon Plant, LRF, VDG, VOD, Bloom & Billet Caster is capable of producing a wide variety of value-added alloys and stainless steel products which are directly / indirectly consumed by Railways, Defence, Forging & Engineering Industry, Capital Equipments, Automotive Components and such other numerous sectors. 

A small sapling which was sown in the year 1999, Jai Balaji Industries Ltd, the flagship company of Jai Balaji Group, has continuously expanded its operations and has grown into a large Banyan tree and now ranks amongst the top 10 steel producers in the country. The group has nine manufacturing units and six of them are in the state of West Bengal. It has also extended its foothold in the other mineral rich states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa. It ranks amongst one of the fastest growing steel companies in India. Having set-up fully integrated green field Steel Plant, it has now achieved over one million tonne steel making capacity. The group has all the facilities of steel making comprising of Pig Iron, DRI, Billets, Rolling Mills, Ferro Alloys, Coal Washery, Captive Power Plants generating green power along with Sinter Plant, Pulverised Coal Injection Plant and Alloy & Stainless Steel Plant being inaugurated today. 

 

 This achievement highlights the Financial, Technical and Project execution skills of the management to successfully execute large projects within record time. The Group has created direct and indirect employment of over 10,000 people in the state. The corporate social responsibilities and social welfare activities undertaken by the company are clearly evident from the welfare of the people in the district.

The group is now going ahead with its Purulia project in West Bengal consisting of an integrated steel plant of 5 million tonne per annum capacity along with 3 million tonne per annum cement plant and 1215 MW power plant. The Purulia project will see a total investment of Rs 16,000 crore. The company has recently been handed over first lot of land comprising of 748.97 acres for the first phase of the Purulia Project. Work on the project will start soon.  

This project further adds to the commitment of JBIL for the growth, development and industrialization in the state. The project at Purulia will be one of the largest and most modern steel plants in the country. It is expected to usher industrial activity and economic development of the district. It will attract setting up of many ancillary units in and around the district and will generate direct and indirect employment to another 50,000 people. The cement plant of 3 million tonne will be one of the largest in the state - a necessity in view of the large infrastructural development activities being undertaken in the state. The project will be iconic in nature and will attract further investments into West Bengal. 

With the project execution skill, financial and technical strength, active support from the State Government and the goodwill generated in the people through its existing social welfare activities, JBIL is confident of successfully completing the project also in the estimated timeframe.
